Retention Recipe

2. How to engineer repeat purchases in the first 30 Days

Your acquisition team is bringing in customers. Your post-purchase flow is losing them.

Most post-purchase strategies involve three emails and a review request. No education. No habit building. No reassurance. Nothing that actually makes a customer want to come back.

The first 30 days will make or break the relationship. Here's what needs to happen before day 30 for a customer to return:

  1. Accelerate time-to-result Your product probably works. But customers don't always use it correctly or long enough to find out.
Show them exactly how to apply the product, how much to use, what order in their routine. Poor application kills results, and you get blamed for it.

  2. Eliminate post-purchase doubt Every customer wonders if they made the right call. Your job is to kill that doubt before it festers.

Show them testimonials from customers with similar goals. Reinforce the decision they already made.

  3. Engineer a usage habit A customer who uses your product daily will reorder. A customer who uses it occasionally will forget you exist.
Send reminders timed to usage. Morning supplement? Email at 7am during week one. Give them a specific cue: "Take this with breakfast" beats "take daily." Celebrate milestones at day 7, 14, 21 - it reinforces the behaviour.

  4. Build belief in the outcome Share real customer stories with context, struggle, and transformation. Teach them the science. Show them they're part of something bigger.
Belief turns customers into advocates, and advocates have the highest LTV of any segment.

Map your first 30 days. Every email should drive one of these four outcomes. If it doesn't, it probably shouldn't exist.

3. Are you only advertising to people ready to buy?

Most ad accounts overweight bottom-of-funnel creatives without realizing it.

It’ll help you audit your current creative mix and spot where growth is leaking.
If your ads feel repetitive or fatigued, this is probably why.
