Google finally added guardrails to AI-generated ads
Google is rolling out text guidelines globally for AI Max for Search and Performance Max. For the first time, you can explicitly tell the system which words and concepts to avoid in AI-generated assets.
No "cheap." No "free." No urgency language if that's not how your brand talks. You give it guidelines, it stays inside them.
Why this matters
Automation drift doesn't only happen at the bidding layer. It happens at the creative layer too. When the model writes engagement-heavy copy that drives clicks but misrepresents your positioning, you start attracting the wrong customers.
Text guidelines cut that off earlier in the process. You're giving the model clearer boundaries before it compounds into a measurement problem.
This gives you qualitative control over how your brand shows up in AI-generated copy, and that's a gap that's been open since these formats launched.
