The $5K article that hit 50% subscription rate

Hint Water's subscription rate was sitting at 15%. Half a year later, it was 50%.

Nothing changed about the product. What changed was a single article.

They paid The Hustle $5K to write a founding story for them.

Then they drove paid traffic to that article. Readers went from the article to the product page and subscribed at a rate that took subscription from 15% of DTC revenue to half of it.

The insight from Nick, who ran growth at Hint:

People subscribe to a reason, not a product. They subscribe because they understand what the product does for them and believe they'll need it again.

Give them the why, when to use it, how often, and the subscription decision makes itself.

Let’s say you have a magnesium supplement brand.

Instead of sending cold traffic to a product page with a 10% subscribe discount, you write one article: "Why most people are magnesium deficient and what happens when you fix it."

The article covers the why, the when, and the how often.

By the time someone hits the PDP, subscription is the obvious next step.

Action Summary:

  • Write one article explaining why your product works, when to use it, and what happens with consistent use

  • Drive paid traffic to that article, not your product page

  • Link from the article to your PDP and make subscription the default offer

  • Track subscription take-rate from that traffic source separately

Build a logistics setup that survives any global crisis

On the latest DTC Daily Podcast, logistics expert Nick broke down how smart e-commerce brands are rethinking logistics during global disruption.

With oil prices fluctuating and freight markets tightening, logistics has become one of the biggest pressure points for e-commerce brands in 2026.

But the brands that survive disruption are usually the ones that prepared before it hit.

Here’s what founders should actually focus on.

Diversify dependencies: Don’t rely on a single supplier, carrier, or warehouse. The strongest brands build contingency into their operations so one disruption does not break the entire system.

Recalculate landed costs fast: When fuel, tariffs, or freight prices spike, margins disappear quickly. Brands that adjust pricing and forecasts early avoid absorbing unsustainable costs.

Negotiate earlier than you think: Even smaller brands have leverage. Strong storytelling, good comparisons, and network relationships can help founders secure better logistics terms than they expect.

Choose partners based on brand fit: A fulfillment partner should support the promise your brand makes customers. Fast shipping, premium experience, or affordable pricing all require different operational strengths.

Audit hidden costs carefully: Freight, fulfillment, and last mile delivery all contain variable fees that quietly compound. Many founders only discover them after the first invoice arrives.

Technology matters more than founders realize: Visibility across freight, warehousing, delivery, and returns becomes critical during disruption. The right tech stack creates speed, flexibility, and better decision-making.

Run A Complete Shopify SEO Audit In Minutes With Claude

I built a simple workflow to audit every product in my Shopify store, pull real keyword data, and push optimized titles and descriptions back — all without touching a single product manually.

Here's what is how it works:

  1. I run a custom Shopify SEO skill that knows exactly what and how to audit. (The skill was shared in Tuesday’s Newsletter)

  1. Claude created a complete report of the findings. I used a dummy store for this example and correctly noted that none of the products has a Meta Title and Description.

    This is a dummy store

  1. Connected DataForSEO to Claude to pull real search volumes, competition scores, and difficulty ratings.

Without an SEO Tool connected, Claude guesses.

(This will work with Ahref’s as well if you already have an account, if not I recommend using DataforSEO cause it a fraction of the cost)

  1. Claude used that data to write an optimized title and description for every product.

  2. Finally, it pushed everything back into Shopify automatically. Every product updated. No manual work.

I ran this on a single product but the same workflow runs on your entire store. Hundreds of products. Minutes.

One more thing.

SEO is not a set it and forget it. Search volumes shift. What ranked last quarter may not be the right keyword today. Run this at least once a month to stay current.

Here's how to set this up.

The full setup, keyword tool config, and skill are below for AI Launch Codes subscribers.

Here is the complete Workflow

Step 1 - Create a free account on https://dataforseo.com/ and grab your API Login and API Password

Once you create an account and login, you’ll find your API Login and API Password under API Access.

You need this to setup the MCP server.

Unfortunately, DataForSEO does not have a connector in the marketplace. So this will need to be setup as a custom connector.
