The 6-step meme ad formula

We usually assume meme ads are just for laughs and brand awareness, not something you trust with serious spend.

This case proves that assumption wrong.

In a $50K per day ad account run by Marin Istvanic, meme-style ads consistently outperform more polished, “professional” creatives.

Example

Here’s the exact process behind it:

  1. Find an ad that already works

  2. Copy that same image 5 times: The only thing you will change is the text written on the image.

  3. Write 5 short “meme-style” texts

  4. Upload them as one Dynamic Creative ad

Instead of running 5 separate ads:

    • You upload 1 ad
    • With 5 image versions
    • Meta automatically shows each version to people

  5. Wait and see which one wins

  6. Put them in your ASC & scaling campaigns

Why this works:

  • They blend into the feed instead of looking like ads

  • They feel more believable than polished brand copy

  • You are not changing your best offers; you are only changing how they are presented

Turn customer reviews into ad headlines

Nom Nom's ad doesn't lead with "Fresh ingredients" or "Pre-portioned meals."

It leads with a customer screaming: "MY DOG LOVES THIS STUFF."

The customer quote grabs attention because it sounds like a real person, not a brand.

Next, they stack the quote with a 5-star rating and the customer's name.

This turns a testimonial into social proof.

The product shot and benefits come after, once you're already hooked.

Try this:

  • Pull your best customer review

  • Use their exact words as your headline

  • Add their name and star rating

  • Let the product benefits support for this ad format, not lead

Products That Stick

Amazon-native brands need two product lines

Bryan Porter's drinkware brand was stuck for 9 years.

They sold the same products on Amazon and their website.

Their site couldn't compete with Amazon's prices or 2-day shipping.

The breakthrough: they stopped selling the same products everywhere.

Instead, they created three product types that only work on DTC:

  1. Limited drops: Small batch releases that sell out fast, because owning the customer relationship lets you create urgency through email and SMS, which Amazon does not allow.

  2. Bundles: One item has thin margins, but multi-unit bundles are far more profitable because shipping costs barely increase and DTC buyers are more willing to buy more per order since they already trust the brand and see the bundle as a better value.

  3. Personalized products: Custom engraving or variants, because high-intent brand buyers will pay a premium for something unique, and Amazon cannot support this well.

Amazon works best for simple, one-off purchases. Your own site is where bundles, limited drops, and personalization win.

If you are selling the same product everywhere and margins are tight, build a second product line designed specifically for DTC.
