Good morning,
Most guarantees tell customers what happens if a product fails.
Brooks tells customers to run in its shoes, sweat in them and get them dirty for up to 90 days. If they are not right, Brooks will still take them back.
That matters because you cannot judge running shoes from a product page or a walk around the house. Brooks gives customers enough freedom to answer the question preventing the purchase.
Today:
We break down how Brooks removes the uncertainty around buying running shoes online, show how to add your return policy to Google Shopping, explain why support tickets can predict churn and remove one operational point of failure.
Today’s Deep Dive
Why Brooks Lets Customers Return Dirty Shoes After 90 Days
Would you let a customer run in your shoes for 90 days, cover them in sweat and dirt, then return them for a full refund?
Brooks does.
Because the biggest objection when buying running shoes online is simple: you cannot know whether they are right until you run in them.
So Brooks has built the customer journey around removing that uncertainty.
1. It starts by preventing the wrong purchase
The guarantee is not the first step.
Brooks helps customers choose through its Shoe Finder, fit education, local professional fittings and Runner Experience specialists.
The goal is to reduce avoidable returns before the order is placed.

2. It lets customers test the real product
Walking around your house cannot tell you how a shoe will feel several miles into a run.
Brooks gives customers 90 days to test their gear on roads, tracks, trails or in the gym.
Its promise is unusually clear:
“Run in it, sweat in it, get it dirty.”
If it does not perform as expected, Brooks will still take it back.

3. The return is made deliberately easy
Customers can start the return online and generate a prepaid shipping label.
There is no return shipping charge or restocking fee. Brooks also asks why the product is being returned, giving the company feedback about fit and performance.

Returned products are not automatically wasted
Brooks says suitable returns may be listed for resale. Worn products that remain functional can be donated through a charity partner.
The company also reserves the right to restrict suspicious or excessive return activity.
That makes this more than a generous promise. Brooks has built the selection, returns and recovery systems needed to support it.
What to copy
Start with the uncertainty stopping customers from buying your product.
A mattress needs to be slept on. Skincare needs time to produce a result. Cookware needs to survive real cooking. Running shoes need to be taken on a real run.
Then build your guarantee around that moment.
Do not simply offer a longer return window. Give customers enough time and freedom to answer the question preventing them from buying.

The How-To
How to Show Your Return Policy on Google Shopping
According to Google, a clear return policy is an important part of the purchase decision and showing it in your ads and listings may improve product performance.
You can add yours directly through Google Merchant Center.
It also replaces vague labels such as “Returns available for most items” with your verified policy.
Step 1: Open your return settings
Go to:
Products & store → Shipping and returns → Return policies
Select Add return policy.
Step 2: Add your policy page
Enter the URL of the return policy on your website.
The policy on your website must match the information you submit to Google.
Step 3: Enter the return conditions
Add:
The countries covered
Return and exchange eligibility
Accepted product condition
The return window
Return methods and fees
Refund processing time
Review the information and select Save.
Step 4: Add holiday exceptions
To offer a longer holiday return window, open the policy and select Add an extension.
Choose the eligible purchase dates and the final return date.
Once verified, Google may display the policy across your Shopping ads, free listings and Gmail.
While You Were Building
In the Headlines
Shopify Tax and Tax Platform will automatically calculate tax on return-shipping fees. Merchants using a manual workaround should review it before October 23 to avoid collecting the tax twice.
Amazon UK sellers report high-value orders remaining pending while the reserved inventory disappears from sale. Brands should monitor unusual spikes in pending orders before valuable stock gets tied up.
Google’s upcoming AI Max report will show which search triggered an ad, which creative appeared and where the shopper landed. This should make mismatched search-to-page journeys much easier to diagnose.
On Socials
Cancellation surveys tell you why customers say they left. Your support inbox may reveal the real reason months earlier.
Repeated complaints should not be treated as isolated tickets. They are leading indicators of churn.
A $100 bid does not mean you will pay $100 for a purchase. It gives Meta permission to enter more expensive auctions, while the actual acquisition cost may remain much lower.
That makes bid caps a potential scaling tool, but only after an ad has already proved it can convert profitably.
Ideas Worth Stealing
The Non-Apology Apology Ad
Grüns opens with “We’re so sorry!”, making the ad look like an important brand announcement.
The “apology” quickly becomes a reminder of the product’s fiber content and ends with a first-order offer. It stops the scroll, teaches one clear benefit and gives the reader a reason to act.
Try this format when you have a surprising product fact worth “apologizing” for. Keep the joke harmless and reveal the real message immediately.

🧑🤝🧑 Today’s Growth Rep: Remove One Single Point of Failure
Choose one important task that only one person on your team knows how to complete. Document it and assign a backup owner today.
Why this works:
Holidays, illness and resignations should not stop fulfilment.
Written processes reduce errors during handovers.
A backup owner exposes missing access and unclear instructions before an emergency.
Your rep:
Pick one critical recurring task.
Ask its owner to record themselves completing it.
Save the recording with the required links and login instructions.
Assign someone else to repeat the task using only that documentation.
Report: “One operational backup created.”
If only one person can do it, you do not have a process yet.
